Let's roll... Where do I Start?

So You Want to Date? Where do you start? What's the plan?

I generally try not to start anything without an element of planning it first, but in this case, I actually don't have a clue. Nonetheless, I decided that the way I should approach this would be keep in mind the ideal girl but always approach with an open mind.

My first port of call would be to look around at people I know... I had a quick think and realised that most of my close friends are male, and the ones who are female are exactly that; close friends. A quick scan around then into my wider social network and I don't know if I've been conditioned to think of people a certain way, but I couldn't think of a single girl I would actually want to date. What about Chinese people? Oh, I don't know any Chinese people. So my entire Chinese social circle outside of family currently consists of about two people plus my ex-girlfriend. The rest are all white folk. Looking at my professional network, I should probably tell you that both my employer and industry are roughly 90% men...

I'm Going In!

Next! Well I have previously dabbled with internet dating, so after some consideration, I decided to try that again... Now, if you haven't looked at dating sites before, nobody  tells  you  how  many  different  dating  sites  there  are...

Yup, those are all real sites... truly there is something for everybody! However I'm going to take a punt that some of these sites have bugger all users. So, back onto a very popular UK dating site that I've used before. Let's see, set up my profile:

• Will anybody notice if I boost myself up to 5'8... it doesn't have quite as much the shortarse ring to it as "5'7", right?
• Best include a couple of pics of me looking like a badass... here's a swimming one. And now a shooting one... There we go, I'm a bloody action hero now.
• Talk about Yorkshire... gotta talk about Yorkshire
• I'll drop in talk about Hong Kong. No mention of takeaways though...

That should do it. I believe I've painted myself like some Chinese hunk... but in reality, I'm a bit more of a geek than that, which is probably what actually comes across. I have no doubt that the girls will come flocking shortly!

Now for a snoop around then. Mess around with the search, 25 - 31 years old (I'm 30), definitely not taller than me etc... what the hell, my search yielded how many?

 

Ok let's refine that a bit, so only show profiles with a pic, online recently, make it a smaller geographical area... aaannnndd my search yielded:

 

Damn it. I had to refine my search a further 2 more times before I got less than 1000!

 Umm, then I got carried away :(

On the plus side, people are starting to view my profile and stuff. That's a good sign...

 ... And I'm reminded that I can't do jacksh*t without signing up. So let's bite the bullet then.

I can pay £30 for a month... £50-something for 3 months... and £70-something for 6 months. The Chinese person in me wants to get maximum value and not get ripped off on a month, but the ego in my says surely it won't take me 6 months to find someone... of course the Chinese Miser wins and I pay for all 6 months. Idiot!
